Employment

As employees become more aware of their rights, and more prepared to litigate in pursuit of those rights, it is essential that employers are able to safeguard their interests.

Our employment team can provide practical advice on employment issues including contracts of employment, discrimination, redundancy, maternity and paternity leave, tribunals, disciplinary action, grievance procedures and dismissal.

Laws governing employment are constantly changing. Contact our employment team to ensure that you stay abreast of these laws.

Redundancy

Do you find yourself having to make some tough decisions? Redundancy is a complex process and you may be at risk in respect of unfair dismissal if you do not do it correctly. Let us guide you through this minefield to help you to stay out of danger.

Unfair Dismissal

Do you have a problem dismissing an employee? Any dismissal needs to be managed carefully to avoid the pitfalls that could lead you to defending a tribunal claim for unfair dismissal. Let us help to guide you through the dismissal itself to try to minimize your risks.

Breach of contract

Sometimes a breach of contract could lead to a claim for damages or to a claim for unfair dismissal if the employee resigns. We can work with you to help avoid these claims and we can help you to defend them if there is a claim against you already.

Compromise Agreements

Do you need a reliable agreement that can be put together quickly and provide the protection your company needs? If so, then we can help using our wealth of experience in representing employer clients.

Harassment

Under the Equality Act there are definitions of harassment that apply to age, sex, race, religion or belief, disability, gender reassignment, and sexual orientation. It is possible for a company to be liable for harassment of its staff by a third party. Let us help you to understand whether there has been harassment that could lead to a claim. We can also help with contracts and handbooks that help prevent harassment and protect the company.

Discrimination

If one of your employees has been treated less favourably because of age, sex, race, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, religion or belief, or sexual orientation it is possible that you may be at risk of a claim of discrimination. We can help you to understand what “less favourably” really means. We can also help you to be aware of what is needed to avoid costly discrimination claims being made against you.

Bullying at work

What constitutes bullying? Let us help you to understand so that you can stop it happening. If the behaviour is bad enough there may be a claim for unfair dismissal on a constructive basis. Let us help you as an employer to avoid this and keep you out of the Tribunal.

Equal Pay

Do you have male and female employees carrying out the same job as each other but being paid differently? It may be possible that they have a claim under the Equality Act. We can help you to understand what is required and guide you through the process.

Tribunal claims

Our expert employment lawyers can guide you through the necessary steps in responding to a claim to the Employment Tribunal. We can carry out the entire range of work from submitting a response up to and including representation at a Tribunal hearing. Our practical help is invaluable when going through a stressful situation.

TUPE Regulations

Most people know that TUPE has the effect of transferring an employee with a business that is sold to the new owner’s employment. But what other effects are there and how do you stay on the right side of this law? We can cut through the red tape and explain it all to you clearly and concisely.

Contracts and Staff Handbook

We can provide contracts for an employer’s particular needs and provide Handbooks that protect employers from unnecessary problems. Our straightforward and practical documents are easy to read and even easier to understand. We can also provide a ‘health check’ of employment documentation to make sure yours are bang up to date.
