Asda has offered new flexible contracts to 135,000 members of staff in return for pay increases. Those accepting the new contracts will get pay rises of £1.06 to £8.50 per hour. However, they will have to take unpaid rest breaks, work Bank Holidays and agree to other changes.
Those who don’t agree to the changes will work under their existing contracts for £7.50 per hour.
Employers should not impose contract changes on employees without either obtaining their consent or taking advice on ways of minimising risks when making unilateral changes.
