Parental Bereavement Bill

The Parental Bereavement (Pay and Leave) Bill, which aims to make provision about leave and pay for employees whose children have died received its second reading on 20th October and is expected to become law as it currently has Government backing.

It provides for 2 weeks leave regardless of length of service, paid leave at a prescribed rate after 26 weeks of service and various other protections. It will not affect existing entitlement to maternity and other parental leave entitlements.

The new right is expected to be available from 2020.
